Beyond the Scalpel: About Non-Surgical Treatments for Foot & Ankle Pain

There are 8 nerve roots in your cervical spine that stimulate movement and feeling.

Beyond the Scalpel: About Non-Surgical Treatments for Foot & Ankle Pain

Foot and ankle health is essential for maintaining an active and fulfilling lifestyle. Whether you're dealing with chronic pain, recovering from an injury, or seeking preventive care, Dr. Hecker’s advanced non-surgical treatments are designed to help you regain mobility and strength.

In this post, we’ll explore various non-invasive treatments and who they’re for, so you can support your journey to recovery and well-being.

What Are Advanced Therapies?

Advanced Therapies by Dr. Tom Hecker at Hecker Sports Medicine™ is a non-surgical approach to the repair and restoration of damaged joints, tendons and ligaments back to a healthy state using advanced modalities.

Advanced Therapy Evaluation Protocol

We want to help you choose a treatment that is custom to your pain and findings. That’s why we go through an Advanced Therapy Protocol before making any big decisions.

  • Evaluation of injury by physical exam
  • Imaging: X-ray, CT, diagnostic ultrasound, MRI to determine the significance of injured structures
  • Temporary stabilization of structure using orthotics, bracing devices, or cam walker boot

Treatment Options

At Hecker Sports Medicine™, we offer several treatment options for a variety of foot & ankle injuries.

TECAR radiofrequency

The TECAR radio frequency treatment is a high-frequency, non-invasive energy which stimulates your body's natural cellular ability to repair itself. It also reduces pain and inflammation, restores movement and increases blood flow. This treatment, like many other advanced therapy treatments that we provide at Hecker Sports Medicine®, TECAR radio frequency can help with post-injury complications to improve and enhance the recovery period in order to have the body healing the right way.

Ideal for:

  • Pain management
  • Optimize healing
  • Physiotherapy
  • Accelerate recovery
  • Sport therapy
  • Enhance sports performance

Piezoelectric shockwave

Piezoelectric impulse therapy, also known as shockwave or focused shockwave therapy, is a non-invasive solution to pain that has been proven to be extremely effective when treating the musculoskeletal system — it’s not electrical, radial or air shock therapy.

This therapy works by sending pulses throughout the treated tissue to improve the pace of healing and promote its regeneration process, helping your body to work more efficiently in the area. The pulses from the therapy hit the scar tissue and calcific fibroblasts, stimulating and promoting remodeling injured tissue and healing in the area.

Unlike other methods that use low impact air or radial impulse, Piezo is a unique electromagnetic impulse system that uses a non-inflammatory stimulus to tissue producing a more complete recovery of the injury.

For people who need:

  • Increased healing in the affected areas
  • To reduce & eliminate pain
  • To reduce muscle tension
  • Improved on microcirculation to help tissue metabolism
  • Increases the production of collagen
  • To get rid of chemicals that can produce pain like Substance-P (this chemical is also associated with inflammation)

This therapy can be used without needing x-rays or drugs, and, as it is a non-invasive procedure, it does not require the use of anesthetics. In most cases, shortly after the first treatment, patients notice reduced pain as well as improved mobility.

Optical Therapeutic Laser

As time goes by, optical therapeutic laser keeps showing more and more positive results when used to heal and stimulate the body. At Hecker Sports Medicine™, we strive to provide you the most advanced and effective non-surgical solutions for your foot and ankle pain.

How Optical Therapeutic Laser Works

We use a medical grade optical laser system that effectively enhances the neuron's energy performance at cellular level. It is the only product on the market today that is providing the best wavelength to effectively penetrate bone.

The main focus of cold laser treatments is to stimulate the cells to heal the correct way, promoting the repair and regeneration of the treated tissue. This process uses the following two methods:

  • Stimulating the mitochondria with your cells (photobiomodulation)
  • The release of nitric oxide from blood vessels that increases blood flow to the treated area (angiogenic effect)

Additionally, Low Light Laser Therapy is based on two principles:

  • Watt = power
  • Joules = energy Joules, or energy, delivered to tissue is what stimulates healing.

Ideal for:

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Stress Fractures
  • Tendonitis
  • Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Flat Feet
  • Lisfranc
  • Nerve injury

Lasers that produce lower watts will deliver fewer joules requiring longer treatment times and more treatments to achieve the correct dose or joules to promote healing, as we focus on regeneration and repair.

Sanexas Electric Cell Therapy

Sanexas is a non-surgical, non-invasive pain treatment that, through electromagnetic neuromuscular stimulation, improves nerve function and promotes nerve repair of the affected areas.

How Sanexas Works

The way Sanexas works is by delivering energy to the part of your body that the therapy is looking to improve. This energy comes at varying wavelengths, including low- and middle-frequency signals. This benefits the area by affecting the cell membrane and the surrounding tissue producing a harmonic resonant vibration which your cells absorb, promoting healing and repair of the area affected by nerve damage.

Ideal for:

  • pH normalization
  • Ligand/hormone activity imitation
  • Trophic improvement
  • Improved membrane permeability
  • Activation of regeneration
  • Immune system support by enhancing cell-to-cell communication

Vissman Acoustical Vibration Therapy

Vissman is an advanced therapy that provides long lasting reduction of muscle tightness through reprogramming of the neuromuscular signal.

How Vissman Works

Vissman employs rapid succession cones of air to generate a Square Wave Mechanical Vibration which is then transmitted through autostatic transducers onto the skin. This vibration passes through the outer layers and fat before stimulating the High Threshold Mechanical Receptors.

The receptors release signals that trigger biochemical processes and interactions, enabling intervention in various pathological conditions. The results are immediately noticeable, and can effectively modify the physical features of a person, whether healthy or undergoing rehabilitation.

Ideal for:

  • Rehabilitation
  • Restore mobility and flexibility
  • Accelerate recovery from injury
  • Enhance muscle strength and tone
  • Reduce tightness
  • Promote lymphatic drainage and blood circulation

BioBox Pro 2

BioBox Pro 2’s innovative combination of frequencies enables the performance of sub-tetanic eccentric contractions.

How BioBox Works

We aim to achieve regeneration and repair with BioBox.BioBox Pro 2 features Bio Signal, an electrical current modulation capable of activating the neuromuscular mechanisms of the human body. This advanced technology promotes super intense eccentric muscle contractions, inhibits pain mechanisms, and increases the mobility of myofascial tissues.

BioBox Pro 2 includes specific frequency microcurrent protocols and training protocols with EMS. It features 26 programs across 4 different areas, including an innovative program for mapping and detecting trigger points or myofascial tension points.

Effective neuromuscular activation with BioBox Pro 2 requires a comprehensive approach:

  • Neuromotor Activation: The bio signal activates the entire neuromotor system, enhancing muscle contraction and performance.
  • Trigger Point Detection: Innovative programs map and detect myofascial tension points, targeting specific areas for treatment.

Ideal for:

  • Muscle weakness and atrophy
  • Myofascial tension and trigger points
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Chronic pain and mobility issues
  • Sports injuries
